About the Role ProSidian Consulting seeks a detail-oriented and motivated Art Collection Management Intern to support the cataloging, inventory management, and documentation of personal and corporate art collections. This role ensures that art collections are meticulously recorded for insurance, preservation, and enhanced accessibility. Interns will gain hands-on experience through site visits to physically inspect, document, and annotate attributes of each item in the collection. Deliverables include a fully annotated catalog with metadata, photographic documentation, acquisition details, and financial data.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for art and a meticulous approach to data documentation and research. By contributing to the comprehensive management of art collections, this role provides an opportunity to develop practical skills in cataloging, condition reporting, and art inventory management while supporting ProSidian’s mission of excellence in collection preservation and organization.

Responsibilities
- Inspect and Inventory: Conduct thorough inspections of artworks, verifying physical conditions and assigning unique inventory codes for tracking.
- Document and Catalog: Create and maintain detailed records for each artwork, including titles, artist details, dimensions, and acquisition data.
- Photograph Artworks: Capture high-quality images for catalog inclusion and insurance purposes, ensuring files are systematically organized.
- Annotate and Manage Data: Input and annotate detailed data attributes in spreadsheets, maintaining accuracy and consistency.
- Research Artists and Provenance: Investigate artist backgrounds, origins, and artwork provenance to provide additional catalog context.
- Report Conditions: Document physical conditions, noting any damage or restoration needs, and suggest preservation recommendations.
- Maintain Financial Records: Record acquisition details, such as purchase dates, vendor information, and associated costs (e.g., shipping, framing).
- Classify and Organize: Classify artworks by type, genre, or theme to enhance collection usability and accessibility.
- Support Insurance and Preservation: Compile records for insurance purposes and identify preservation needs to protect collection value.
- Collaborate and Report: Work with stakeholders to prioritize tasks, prepare detailed reports, and summarize collection updates.
Qualifications
- Enrolled in or recently completed a degree in art history, museum studies, library sciences, or a related field.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data entry tools.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Basic photography skills are a plus.
- Availability to travel for site visits as required.
