Tempo Learning faculty subject matter experts (faculty SMEs) are student-facing faculty roles.
Faculty SMEs are assigned to one or more competencies based on their subject matter expertise.
Core responsibility: central academic content support for Tempo Learning students.
Collaborate with coaches and faculty assessors regularly.
- Assist students with questions/challenges to achieve competency.
- Initiate regular academic engagement with students.
- Document all student academic engagement.
- Hold weekly office hours and conduct synchronous webinars.
- Respond promptly to student questions through discussion boards and emails.
- Utilize learning and behavioral analytics for student engagement tracking.
- Ensure curriculum quality (development, review, and improvement).
- Establish regular contact with students, even when unexpected, with caring and attentiveness.
- Develop sensitivity to cultural differences.
- Exercise patience, tolerance, and assume good intent from learners.
- Develop online discussion catalysts to stimulate engagement.
- Encourage risk-taking and learning from mistakes.
- Create an atmosphere of mutual respect.
- Monitor student work for academic integrity.
- Review competency content and recommend updates.

Course availability: assigned to specific competency modules (Tempo Learning platform).
Collaboration: Academic Coach, faculty assessors, and colleagues.
Interaction: within the context of assigned CBE module.
Availability: 24/7 discussion boards, self-directed activities.
Response time: student inquiries within 48 hours.
Availability publication: publish availability in Tempo Learning platform.
Tools/Technical Skills: ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily.
Requirements: appropriate credentials, earned degree, potential licensure/license eligibility, maintain licenses/certifications, currency with research, publication/acknowledgment if involved in research.
Travel: some travel may be required.
Commitment: excellence in student-centered learning, addressing needs of self-directed distance education students; diverse students (experienced and mid-career); manage workload fluctuations.
Skills: teaching, advising, mentoring; promotion of applied research and faculty development; excellent leadership, communication, team, and human relations skills.
Degrees: earned degree in the field or related field; doctorate preferred; master's required.
Experience: significant intellectual and professional contributions; minimum of three years of teaching experience (degree level of program); experience with distance and competency-based education preferred but not required.
Compensation: Graduate instruction: $1,560 - $4,080 per quarter/semester; Undergraduate instruction: $700 - $2,200 per quarter (dependent on course type and length).
Additional opportunities: dissertation/doctoral study committee chair, research reviewing, dissertation and doctoral study mentoring.
