Opportunity at a Glance Contributing faculty members serve in a part-time capacity to educate Walden University Students. They effectively and proficiently use online technology and resources to impart knowledge, information, feedback, and critique to students through thoughtful, carefully formulated, well-written, and timely communications.

What to Expect as a Walden Faculty Member!
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide course instruction, course content development, and other curricular activities as needed.
- Provide residency instruction.
- Provide academic advising and mentoring.
- Promote a social work professional identity with students.
- Engagement in scholarship
Training All new faculty members receive training in online teaching techniques, LMS use, school/college policies, procedures, and degree programs, socialization into Walden University culture, assessment of academic integrity (including Turnitin.com), and research supervision of theses/dissertations.
Teaching and mentorship assignments are contingent upon successful training completion. Faculty members may be assigned a peer mentor (senior colleague) during their first term for additional instruction and peer review.
Course Teaching/Availability Faculty members are responsible for interacting with students in the Learning Management System (LMS). Discussion Boards are open 24/7. A minimum of 4 days per week classroom presence is expected, with student question responses within 48 hours.
Regular and predictable availability, such as online office hours or chats, is suggested and may be required by program or college policy.
Residencies Graduate-level faculty may attend domestic/international residencies for face-to-face instruction, colloquia, and discussions. Contributing faculty may participate but aren't required to attend.
Completes other duties as assigned.
Tools/Technical Skills To perform the job, strong technical skills are required.
Licensing/Certification Faculty must be credentialed, possess an earned degree from an accredited institution or institution recognized by a country's ministry of education in the relevant discipline, and potentially licensed or license-eligible to teach specific programs.
Maintain licenses and certifications; maintain currency with research by reviewing articles, journals, and presentations; and publish and acknowledge Walden University if participating in research.
Travel Contributing faculty may travel to university events and residencies, expected to fully participate.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
- Earned doctorate in Social Work, Human Services, or related field is required.
- MSW from a CSWE-accredited program.
- Intellectual and professional contributions, including publications and presentations.
- 3-5 years teaching experience (graduate or undergraduate, as appropriate) is preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of post-graduate level practice experience is required.
- Experience with distance education, advocating for student learning needs, is preferred.
- Evidence of compatibility with Walden University's mission and values.
WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is primarily in a standard office environment, but may involve exposure to moderate noise levels, computer use (6-8 hours daily), and traditional office physical demands.
Technology Requirements Personal computer with virus protection and internet access is required.
Walden University provides email, learning platform access, password-protected faculty sections of the website, university and college listservs, and other faculty communication tools.

Compensation Graduate Course Instruction: $1,560 - $4,080 per Quarter/Semester. Undergraduate Course Instruction: $700 - $2,200 per quarter (varies by course type and length). Actual pay may be adjusted based on job-related factors. See compensation schedule for details.
