We are looking for a Contract Illustrator (Stylized Cartoon) to assist on a short-term project on an established cartoon IP. You will be assisting the team in creating cover art and other illustration needs within the established art style for the release of an upcoming webcomic.
Important: The style has already been defined. This role is about matching and extending that style for new pieces (such as covers, key art, and comic panels), ensuring a seamless fit with existing material.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Create 2D illustrations that faithfully match the existing established art style.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on a short-term project.
- Communicate with the Storygrounds team via Slack or chosen communication method and meet agreed-upon milestones.
- Follow provided style guides, reference art, and feedback to ensure consistency with the current visual direction.
- Deliver clean & production-ready artwork which includes correctly formatted and exported files in requested specifications (e.g., layered PSDs, high-resolution PNGs, etc.)
- A PORTFOLIO that shows your expertise in imitating any 2D Cartoon art styles (ex., Adventure Time, Rick and Morty, Bojack Horseman).
- Excellent Photoshop skills.
- Skilled in delivering clear and professional communication in English.
- Ability to reproduce an existing stylized, flat-color cartoon aesthetic. Clean, bold outlines with smooth curves; no sketchy or textured rendering.
- Flat fills with high-contrast, surreal palettes (purples, greens, pinks, etc.); little to no shading or gradients.
- Simplified but expressive characters, dynamic poses, and humor conveyed through body language.
- Experience working in a production environment, such as Video Games or Animation.
- Ability to adapt quickly to feedback and replicate established styles without deviation.
- Experience collaborating with remote teams using tools like Slack, Dropbox, and similar.
- Interest in indie comics, experimental/absurdist art styles, or alternative storytelling formats.
- A sense of morbid humor LOL.
