Job Details
Faculty Responsibilities: Educate Walden University students via online technology. Ensure timely, thoughtful, well-written communications, respecting students, faculty, Walden, and the discipline.
Training: All new faculty receive training in online teaching techniques, LMS use, policies, procedures, and degree programs. Training is required before teaching assignments.
Mentorship: New faculty may be assigned peer mentors for support and classroom reviews during the first term.
Course Teaching: Faculties teach courses using the LMS, interact with students within the LMS, and participate in 24/7 discussion boards. Minimum 4 days per week classroom presence and student response within 48 hours.
Research Mentorship: Mentors work with students on research requirements, providing feedback, approval, assessment, and evaluation.
Residencies: Graduate-level faculty may attend residencies domestically, teaching virtual/face-to-face sessions. Contributing faculty may attend but are not required.
Tools/Technical Skills: Proficient use of personal computer, Internet, and APA 7th edition.
Travel: Travel to university events is possible but not required.
Work Environment: Primarily office-based, with computer use (2-6 hours daily) and usual office functions.
Education/Experience: Terminal degree in Psychology, Public Health, Human Services, Business Leadership, or related fields; 3-5 years of online teaching experience at the doctoral level is preferred; experience on doctoral research committees is preferred, demonstrating scholarly/creative work within past 5 years. Proficiency in APA 7th edition; research methodology background in qualitative case study methods preferred.
Skills/Qualifications: Strong leadership, communication, team, and human relation skills; experience working in online instruction; appropriate credentials from accredited institution; may require licensure, depending on program.Technology Requirements: Personal computer, internet access. Walden provides email, LMS access, password-protected faculty sections, listservs, and communication tools.
Compensation: Graduate course instruction: $1,560 - $4,080 per quarter/semester, depending on course type and length. Undergraduate instruction: $700 - $2,200 per quarter, depending on course type and length. Other opportunities exist, such as dissertation committee chair positions, reviewing, and mentorship.
