GENERAL SUMMARY: Tempo Learning faculty subject matter experts (faculty SMEs) are student-facing faculty roles. Faculty SMEs are assigned to competencies based on expertise. Core responsibility: central academic content support for Tempo Learning students.
Faculty SME Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist students with questions/challenges to achieve competency.
- Initiate regular academic engagement with each student.
- Document student academic engagement.
- Post and respond to student questions (discussion boards, emails).
- Use rubrics to validate competency demonstration.
- Provide corrective/positive feedback, encouraging revisions.
- Utilize learning analytics to identify students needing intervention.
- Ensure curriculum quality (development, review, improvement).
- Develop sensitivity to cultural differences.
- Create online discussion catalysts for engagement.
- Promote mutual respect.
- Monitor academic integrity.
- Review competency content and update resources.
Walden Faculty Expectations: Educate students effectively using online resources. Provide thoughtful, timely, well-written communication. Respect students, faculty, Walden University, and discipline.
Training: New faculty receive training in CBE philosophy, student engagement, feedback, teaching using the platform, school/college policies, Walden culture, and academic integrity assessment.
Course Teaching/Availability: Faculty are assigned competency modules (Tempo Learning platform). Collaborate with Academic Coaches. Discussion boards and activities are open 24/7. Assignments/assessments must be completed timely. Respond to student inquiries within 48 hours, return assessments with feedback within 72 hours. Publish availability (online office hours, regular chats).
Tools/Technical Skills: Adequate computer, keyboard, pointing device, monitor, Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint), zip software, Adobe Acrobat, reliable internet access.
Travel: Possible travel for National Faculty meetings/commencement.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Earned doctorate in Psychology.
- Significant intellectual/professional contributions.
- Minimum 3 years of teaching experience at graduate level.
- Commitment to CBE and student needs.
- Ability to work with diverse, experienced students.
- Ability to manage workload fluctuations.
- Teaching, advising, mentoring experience.
- Commitment to applied research and diverse faculty.
- Excellent leadership, communication, team, human relation skills.
- Experience with distance education & CBE preferred.
Compensation: Graduate Course Instruction: $1,560 - $4,080 per Quarter/Semester. Undergraduate Course Instruction: $700 - $2,200 per quarter. Pay adjusted based on factors.
