Contractor Database Engineer

About this PositionWe are seeking a skilled General Database Engineer to join our team in a hybrid work environment. You will provide support and guidance to the Application team, install, tune, and implement DBMS installations, ensuring systems run optimally.

You will be responsible for maintaining database programs, troubleshooting, and proactively recommending system improvements.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Database Engineer to work with technologies such as SAP ASE/Sybase, Redis, Postgres, and Linux, contributing to team and organizational success.

Job Responsibilities

1. Provide guidance and support to the Application team for database management.
2. Install, tune, implement, and upgrade DBMS installations.
3. Write and deploy SQL patches to ensure system stability.
4. Process work accurately and in a timely manner, with attention to detail and urgency.
5. Proactively recommend system improvements based on performance data.
6. Collate, prepare, and present statistical information for internal and external use.
7. Write and maintain database programs to handle database traffic and ensure smooth operation.
8. Design and implement new databases based on company and user needs.
9. Continuously monitor databases and related systems to ensure high functionality.
10. Write support programs and scripts for deployment, operation, and problem resolution.
11. Troubleshoot platform-specific performance issues and resolve problems related to database functionality.
12. Debug existing database scripts and programs to ensure efficiency.
13. Review daily, weekly, and monthly database reports to ensure peak performance.

Skills/Requirements

Required Experience:

• Expertise in the installation, upgrade, and patching of different components in SAP ASE/Sybase, Redis, and Postgres.
• Experience with replication setup, troubleshooting, and failovers.
• Experience monitoring system logs, work processes, disk space, and more.
• Ability to ensure production uptime service levels (backup, recovery, performance tuning, and security).
• Strong experience with schema creation, deployment, and maintenance.
• Knowledge of Disaster Recovery setup and maintenance.
• Automation skills using shell-script, Python, Ansible, Go, etc.
• Performance and tuning expertise, with a focus on query analysis and monitoring.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with financial systems.
• Strong communication skills, especially with stakeholders and managers.

Technical Skills:

• Linux-based environment expertise (mandatory).
• SAP ASE/Sybase knowledge is a must.
• Experience with scripting (Python, Shell, Ansible) is highly valued.

Experience Level: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in database administration and engineering.

Additional Information

• Hybrid work environment (3 days onsite, 2 days remote).
• Contract position with potential for extension.
• Pay/Salary Range $85-$90/hr.
