Full-Time Director of Developer Community, PyTorch

Role OverviewAs the Director of Developer Community, you will build and nurture relationships across the PyTorch Foundation's diverse project ecosystem. Focus on understanding and addressing the needs of AI researchers, developers, and engineers using our projects (PyTorch framework, vLLM, DeepSpeed).

Work closely with internal teams to ensure community voice is heard and represented, and identify potential new projects benefiting from Foundation support.

Key Responsibilities

• Community Engagement and Technical Support
• Build strong relationships with AI researchers, developers, and engineers.
• Facilitate technical discussions and knowledge sharing.
• Gather and prioritize community feedback for each project.
• Support community members in their technical journey.
• Identify synergies between project communities.
• Evaluate and recommend new open-source projects.

• Developer Advocacy and Technical Communication
• Collaborate with researchers to highlight innovative uses.
• Support technical documentation and learning resources.
• Represent diverse community needs and perspectives.
• Participate in technical discussions and provide guidance.
• Coordinate cross-project initiatives and knowledge sharing.
• Evaluate potential open-source projects for strategic alignment.
• Present technical talks at industry conferences.
• Represent the Foundation at local AI events.
• Work with PyTorch Ambassadors to organize local meetups.
• Engage in broader industry initiatives and working groups.

• Cross-functional Collaboration
• Provide technical input for content and communications.
• Develop technical content for conferences and workshops.
• Understand community needs and impact.
• Ensure community feedback influences product development.

• Community Insights and Feedback
• Establish effective channels for gathering feedback.
• Analyze community insights to inform product decisions.
• Address technical pain points with engineering teams.
• Maintain open communication channels.

• Technical Community Support
• Maintain discussion forums and community platforms.
• Support community-led technical initiatives.
• Assist with troubleshooting and resolving issues.
• Foster a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• 8+ years of developer relations, technical community management, or similar experience.
• Strong technical background in AI/ML.
• Hands-on development experience.
• Ability to understand and communicate complex technical concepts.
• Relationship-building skills within technical communities.
• Strategic thinking and technical project evaluation skills.
• Experience managing multiple technical communities.
• Understanding of open-source project evaluation and growth.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Presentation experience at technical conferences.
• Public speaking and presentation skills.
• (Preferred): PyTorch or similar deep learning framework experience, ML research/development experience.

The PyTorch Foundation operates as part of the Linux Foundation, focused on accelerating open-source AI development and community engagement.

Salary: $165,000 - $220,000
