Job Details

ER Lawyer oversees Montu's Employee Relations frameworks, processes, and practices, ensuring compliance with regulatory and legal standards.

Acts as internal Subject Matter Expert providing guidance on complex ER matters and managing high-risk cases.

Collaborates with People Partnering team and people leaders to execute ER initiatives effectively.

  1. Employee Relations Case Management
    • Provides strategic guidance on ER cases ensuring risk mitigation and compliance.
    • Supports People Partners on moderate-complexity cases; leads high-risk/high-profile cases.
    • Conducts investigations (moderate-high risk & senior management).
    • Advises on general protections, unfair dismissal risks, and other ER risks.
    • Represents Montu in mediations/hearings.
    • Manages external legal counsel and investigators.
    • Maintains accurate case records and documentation.
  2. Employee Relations Framework
    • Develops, updates, and ensures compliance with ER policies, procedures, and frameworks.
    • Oversees employment contracts to mitigate ER risks.
    • Enables People & Talent team with structured frameworks for fair/defensible investigations, disciplinary processes, Award/Fair Work compliance in organizational changes, managed exits, and government compliance submissions (e.g., WGEA).
  3. Employee Relations Business Capability
    • Identifies ER skill gaps and collaborates on capability-building initiatives.
    • Analyzes ER data to detect trends and mitigate risks.
    • Stays updated on legislative changes, drafting insights for leadership.
    • Interprets and applies employment legislation to align business strategy with compliance.

Required Experience/Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in IR, HR, or Law
  • Certified Mediator
  • Trained ER investigator with consulting and in-house experience
  • Experience interpreting Fair Work rulings and applying requirements to frameworks
