Intern Journalism Editor Internship

Note: This virtual, unpaid internship role is available for 12 months, and can also be used for class credit.

A Hot Set is looking for a long-term (12-month commitment) Editor.

Position: Unpaid, part-time, online.

Responsibilities:

• Site manager under the direction of the Publisher.
• Assist in selecting and supervising site contributors.
• Assist in assigning content relevant to the target demographic.
• Work with contributors to develop AP Style articles.
• Review and approve content.
• Cross-check citations and examine references.
• Meet deadlines and production requirements.
• Assist in creating and disseminating staff information.

Location: Metro New York, San Francisco, Miami, Los Angeles, and Chicago residents encouraged to apply, but not required.

Qualifications:

• Required:
• Superior verbal and written communication skills, AP Style expert.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and make effective decisions.
• Comprehensive understanding of diverse international social and political landscapes.
• Capacity to analyze and interpret events from multiple perspectives.
• Ability to oversee development of news features on international topics.
• Exceptional time management skills with a track record of meeting stringent deadlines.
• Expert knowledge of communication and mass media.
• Proficiency in adapting to new online content media.
• Experience in editorial/content management or managing a site.
• Ability to manage a team of 7 reporters.
• Preferred:
• Bachelor's or graduate degree in Journalism, English, or related field.
• Prior writing, reporting, or editing experience with academic publications or reputable outlets.
