AECOM seeks an experienced Field Biologist for immediate, part-time variable employment in the Los Angeles County region, supporting LA Wildfire Recovery. This 6-month assignment may extend.
This field-based, remote position requires on-site work (generally 7-day rotations) linked to a Southern California office. Candidates must work long days (up to 12 hours).
Possible tasks include:
- Conducting wildlife/botanical surveys, including vegetation/habitat mapping
- Identifying native/non-native fauna/flora
- Conducting special-status species surveys
- Avian species identification/mortality monitoring
- Supporting project execution (pre-construction surveys, construction monitoring)
- Environmental compliance monitoring
- Botanical knowledge & evaluating phenology for native seed scouting
- Restoring crew work oversight & native seed collection
- Restoration vegetation performance monitoring
- Using electronic data collection (GPS), managing, interpreting, analyzing data
- Monitoring/survey fieldwork (inland/desert environments, rugged terrain) with a team or alone
- Working under supervision of a senior project manager/senior team member
- Managing tasks independently, ensuring schedule and budget adherence
- Working independently/in teams, being innovative/problem-solving
- Elevating compliance concerns to senior team members
- Clarifying resource project requirements to compliance/construction teams
- Promoting safety culture/adherence to Safe Work Plans
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (biology, ecology)
- 4 years of relevant experience OR demonstrated equivalency
- Valid U.S. Driver's License
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior consulting experience
- Experience conducting biological surveys/environmental compliance/construction oversight
- Southern California special-status species experience & regulatory knowledge
- Location in/willingness to travel to/relocate to Los Angeles region
- Leadership/diplomacy skills
- Experience with mitigation, monitoring, reporting programs
- Familiarity with transmission/utility projects
- Familiarity with Endangered Species Act, California Endangered Species Act, NEPA, CEQA, Clean Water Act regulations/permitting
- OSHA-40 certified
- Strong organizational/communication skills
- Southern California wildlife/plant species knowledge
- Flexibility to support multiple projects
- Teamwork and excellent listening skills
- Experience with electronic data collection
- U.S. Citizenship
