AECOM seeks an experienced Field Biologist for part-time, variable employment supporting LA Wildfire Recovery in Los Angeles County. This 6-month initial assignment may extend. This is a field-based, remote position requiring on-site availability for extended periods (generally 7-day rotations). Position requires long field days (up to 12 hours). The role will support various natural resource projects in Southern California, focusing on biological surveys (nesting birds, sensitive resources), vegetation mapping, wildlife assessments, habitat restoration, and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Wildlife/botanical surveys, including vegetation mapping
  2. Special-status species surveys
  3. Avian species identification and mortality monitoring
  4. Project execution (pre-construction surveys, construction monitoring)
  5. Environmental compliance monitoring
  6. Native seed scouting (phenology evaluation)
  7. Restoration crew oversight and native seed collection
  8. Restoration vegetation performance monitoring
  9. Electronic data collection (GPS, data management)
  10. Team and independent fieldwork (inland/desert environments)
  11. Task scheduling and budget management
  12. Compliance concern escalation
  13. Safety procedures adherence (Safe Work Plans)
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in biology/ecology
  • 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent
  • Valid U.S. driver's license
  • Prior consulting experience (preferred)
  • Experience with biological surveys/environmental compliance
  • Field experience with southern California special-status species
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements (Endangered Species Act, NEPA, CEQA, Clean Water Act)
  • OSHA-40 certified
  • Located in (or willing to relocate to) Los Angeles region
