Contractor Legacy COBOL/JCL to Databricks

Legacy System Modernization Consultant (COBOL/JCL to Databricks) We are seeking experienced consultants to support legacy mainframe application modernization.

Ideal candidates have strong expertise in COBOL and JCL, proven experience analyzing, translating, and re-platforming mainframe logic to cloud-based data platforms like Databricks.

Role: Transform legacy data processing into scalable cloud solutions.

1. Analyze COBOL and JCL code to extract business logic and data workflows.
2. Translate and re-engineer legacy processes using Databricks (PySpark, SQL, Delta Lake).
3. Document system behavior and technical design for modern implementation.
4. Collaborate with architects, analysts, and developers for accurate migration.
5. Conduct unit testing, validation, and performance tuning of modernized code.
6. Provide documentation and knowledge transfer for ongoing support.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years COBOL and JCL experience in a mainframe environment (e.g., z/OS).
• 2+ years hands-on experience with Databricks, PySpark, and Delta Lake.
• Understanding of data migration and legacy modernization best practices.
• Proficiency with SQL and modern data engineering workflows.
• Ability to reverse-engineer and refactor legacy systems for cloud platforms.
• Strong problem-solving and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

Preferred Skills

• Cloud platform experience (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
• Mainframe data sources knowledge (e.g., VSAM, flat files).
• Job scheduling tool familiarity (e.g., Control-M).
• Background in financial services, insurance, or other legacy-heavy industries.
