Coding Specialist II - Anesthesia Coding

Required Experience: ANESTHESIA CODING EXPERIENCE.
Performs CPT and ICD10 coding through medical record abstraction, focusing on complex encounters and/or HCPCS procedural codes.
Demonstrates a deep understanding of disease processes, anatomy & physiology and pharmacology.
Collaborates with providers and clinical areas to ensure accurate record reflections of patient services.
Trains physicians and staff on documentation, billing and coding.
Responsibilities:
- Reviews medical records thoroughly, using all available documentation.
- Abstracts and codes physician professional services, diagnoses, anesthesia encounters, operative room and surgical procedural services, invasive procedures, drug infusion encounters.
- Codes Evaluation and Management services, bedside procedures, and diagnostic tests.
- Assigns CPT, ICD10 codes, and modifiers with 95% accuracy.
- Ensures charge capture via reconciliations (procedure schedules, OR logs, clinical system reports).
- Provides documentation feedback to physicians.
- Maintains coding reference materials.
- Trains physicians and staff on documentation, billing and coding.
- Reviews and communicates billing and coding guidelines.
- Attends meetings and educational roundtables.
- Resolves pre-account receivable edits.
- Identifies repetitive documentation problems and system issues.
- Corrects billed services, adds missing services, corrects codes and modifiers.
- Adds MBO tracking codes.
- Collaborates with Patient Accounting, PB Billing, and other areas.
- Identifies and resolves incorrect claim issues.
- Drafts letters to coordinate appeals.
- Obtains documentation (notes, reports, drug plans).
- Provides additional code and modifier information for denial appeals.
- May contact providers for peer reviews.
- Meets established productivity and quality standards.
- Required Certifications: RHIA, RHIT, CPC, CCS.
- Experience: 0-2 years in a relevant role.
- Accuracy: 94% on the organization's coding test.
Preferred: Bachelor's/Associate's degree in Health Information Management. Previous experience with physician coding.
