Role Summary: Primarily requires support and leadership to the Mine Closure Team. Raise the profile of the team within the mining industry and improve project backlog. Improve ability to deliver quality, on time, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver leading Closure practice consulting services to internal and external clients, in South Africa, Africa, and globally.
- Deliver complex technical contributions to the Mine Closure practice and develop innovative approaches and techniques.
- Mentor and grow the Mine Closure team.
- Leadership of transdisciplinary project teams on local, regional, and international closure consulting projects, so they are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to client and international standards.
- Coordinating transdisciplinary teams to develop winning proposals and deliver projects.
- Work collaboratively with other senior members of the WSP Mining team to implement business growth strategy, develop, and maintain relationships with a broad client base.
- Consulting and collaborating with other specialists within and external to WSP to provide technical input to specific aspects of closure planning (e.g., devising closure criteria/measures for waste residue facilities and contaminated land, surface rehabilitation, or treatment of excess mine water).
- Compiling and integrating reports, spreadsheets, and drawings into a final product.
- Making project decisions and managing junior staff to execute specific tasks.

- Role model standards for SHEQ performance and behavior consistent with the company’s health, safety, environmental, and quality vision and policies.
- Contributing to the identification of SHEQ risks and driving processes to achieve Zero Harm.
- Embracing, displaying, and promoting company values and ensuring a safe working environment is maintained at all times.
Key Competencies:
- Demonstrable closure experience and entrenched knowledge of the mining sectors in South Africa and Africa, particularly within the field of rehabilitation and closure.
- Ability to lead, guide, and mentor high-performing teams.
- High-level communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to integrate transdisciplinary specialist disciplines into Mine Closure deliverables.
- Strong technical writing capability.
- Experience in dealing with clients and acting as the key company representative.
Job Experiences:
- 15 years’ experience in Mine Closure and environmental management aspects is a bonus.
- Ability to lead and guide high-performing teams.
- High-level communication and presentation skills.
- Experience in developing client relationships and contributing to business growth.
- Experience in the mining, manufacturing, oil and gas, and energy sectors is an asset.
- Experience in South Africa and other countries in Africa is an asset.
Education: BTech/BEng/BSc degree in mining/environmental management/engineering; or Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) in Quantity Surveying; or Landscape Architect (BScLArch, BL(Hons) or ML(Prof); or BSc(Hons) degree (preferably spatial/geographical sciences).
