Job Details
Lab Director, Staff Pathologist is responsible for ensuring quality clinical lab services and products within Guardant's Oncology Division. Serves as associate director in a team of pathologists and directors.
Responsibilities include:
- Histology slide assessment
- Tissue selection
- Molecular assay interpretation and sign-out
- Assay development and validation
- Laboratory operations participation
- Improving digital pathology capabilities
- Supporting clinical trial operations
- Ensuring compliance with regulations
- Associate director responsibilities in operating Guardant Health histopathology lab under CLIA, CAP, NYS and other regulations
- Slide review for tumor content estimation, diagnosis correlation and communication with referring pathologists and oncologists
- Interpretation of immunohistochemical stains (e.g., PD-L1)
- Quality management system participation, management of adverse outcomes and non-conformities
- Participation in onsite surveys and appropriate management of survey results
- Performance in proficiency testing
- Oversight of the laboratory's quality management system
- Continuing education for laboratory technical staff
- Establishment of staff competency monitoring policies and procedures
- Providing remedial training or continuing education
- Promoting a safe lab environment
- Ensuring availability of an approved procedure manual
- Monitoring lab work for medically reliable data
- Monitoring and evaluating service quality and appropriateness
- Advice to referring physicians regarding lab findings
- Ensuring reports include pertinent information for patient interpretation
- Implementing correction plans for deficiencies
- Reporting test quality/safety concerns
- Reviewing and approving lab documentation (policies, validation plans, training, etc.)
- Licensed physician in California (or eligible for licensure)
- Training and demonstrated expertise in histopathology in generally accepted methods within the last six years
- Certification by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology or Molecular Genetic Pathology preferred
- Experience signing out IHC cases, particularly PD-L1, preferred
Additional Requirements
- Must meet licensing requirements in California, preferred qualification for New York State in Oncology and Histopathology
Work Model
Hybrid work model. In-person/onsite collaboration days defined. U.S. employees within 50 miles of a Guardant facility are required onsite on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. US based.
Salary
Salary range: $221,400 - $298,900. Details may vary by location, experience, and skills.
