Language Testing Specialist plays a critical role in developing, reviewing, and revising test items for WIDA ACCESS and WIDA Screener, large-scale English language proficiency assessments for multilingual learners in grades 1-12.
This position involves:
- Development of test items (linguistic content, graphics descriptions, scripts) aligning to the WIDA ELD Standards Framework.
- Implementation of stakeholder feedback on items.
- Qualitative analysis of student responses to items.
- Internal reviews, proofing, and mock administrations of test materials.
- Selection of training responses for scoring.
- Quality control checks of test items before delivery and live administration.
Essential Duties:
- Evaluate, review, and write test materials, providing feedback to team members on item development.
- Review and revise items for accuracy and appropriateness.
- Write and refine graphics descriptions for student comprehension.
- Evaluate and track graphics changes for accuracy and grade-level appropriateness.
- Prepare materials for internal and external reviews.
- Coordinate external consultant tasks for timely item delivery (theme generators, item writers, etc.).
- Incorporate item feedback from project managers, clients, and subject matter experts (standards, bias/sensitivity, content reviewers).
- Analyze data from pilot activities and use feedback for revisions.
- Analyze and interpret field test data to revise items or develop new items.
- Communicate and collaborate across teams.
- Adhere to quality control procedures.
- Prepare and maintain files and records (reports, notes, spreadsheets).
- Write and revise test item specifications.
- Maintain test item database.
- Prepare training samples, annotations, and scoring notes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and at least 2 years of experience, or Master's degree.
Ideal candidate experience:
- Experience with K-12 English learners (ELs) in US school contexts.
- Experience teaching ESL.
- Experience developing ESL/EFL tests for K-12 students.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Understanding of English language development and K-12 education standards/practices.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Demonstrate flexibility in responding to feedback and evolving priorities.
Skills:
- Strong oral and interpersonal communication.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading.
- Excellent organization, planning, and time management.
- Proficiency in a language other than English.
- Proficiency with Adobe InDesign and Microsoft Office.
Travel Requirements:
Occasional travel (1-3 times per year).
Compensation: Minimum Salary: $59,500.
Physical Demands:
Effective communication, regular sitting/standing, computer/office equipment use.
