About LifeMD: LifeMD is a leading digital healthcare company committed to expanding access to virtual care, pharmacy services, and diagnostics. They focus on treatment and prevention using a vertically-integrated, proprietary digital care platform.
About the Role: LifeMD is seeking a Lead Backend Engineer to evolve and scale their VPC platform. You will design and implement backend systems, mentor developers, and partner with product, QA, and operations teams. You'll also define and enforce the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
Responsibilities:
- Architect, build, and optimize backend services for scheduling, task management, and workflows.
- Define platform APIs, data models, and service boundaries across Node.js-based services.
- Collaborate with product, QA, and front-end teams.
- Champion and improve the company-wide SDLC.
- Mentor developers on design patterns, code quality, and testing.
- Partner with DevOps and Security to ensure high availability and compliance.
- Lead technical reviews and shape the roadmap for core backend domains.
- Improve internal documentation and coding standards.
Requirements:
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience
- 5+ years of experience in backend development
- Strong proficiency in Node.js/TypeScript, MongoDB, and Redis / message queues
- Understanding of distributed systems and API design
- Experience building event-driven architectures
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) and container orchestration
- Comfortable balancing strategic architecture decisions with hands-on coding
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in regulated or healthcare-adjacent environments (SOC-2, HIPAA)
- Background with GraphQL, gRPC, or service federation
- Experience leading migrations from monoliths to microservices
- Background in workflow engines or job scheduling systems
- Interest in mentoring and process improvement
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
