Full-Time Manager, Playout Engineering

NBCUniversal Operations & Technology is seeking a Manager, Playout Engineering to lead a team of DevOps and Site Reliability Engineers. The team will drive the migration of on-premises master control playout to a cloud-native solution, encompassing all NBCUniversal live linear channels.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead a team of ~10 DevOps and SRE engineers.
• Support Broadcast Automation for the Master Control Playout ecosystem.
• Deploy Broadcast Automation software to the cloud using CI/CD tools.
• Validate software functionality in development and staging environments.
• Create project plans with high-level conceptual drawings.
• Estimate cloud usage costs for project proposals.
• Drive automation and remote deployments (nationwide).
• Provide L2 & L3 support for playout infrastructure/services, including after-hours on-call support.
• Manage highly reliable, enterprise-scale on-air systems.
• Develop monitoring dashboards/automated alerting using Splunk & Grafana.

Basic Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 5+ years hands-on engineering experience with broadcast automation playout environments (e.g., Snell, Harris, Imagine, Amagi).
• 2+ years of engineering management or team lead experience.
• 24/7 on-call availability for escalations.
• Experience with Linux administration.
• Experience with automation platforms (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, CloudFormation).
• Experience with monitoring/logging tools (e.g., Splunk, Grafana).
• Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Argo CD, GitHub Actions).
• Experience with streaming protocols and codecs (e.g., TS, HEVC, H.264, HLS, CMAF, SCTE-35, SCTE-224, ESAM, SRT/RIST).
• Experience with IP networking and cloud-based networks.
• Experience with containerization (Docker & Kubernetes).
• Experience with public cloud, specifically AWS.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Expert knowledge of broadcast playout systems (master control).
• Ability to work in a fast-paced agile environment.
• Automate-first and automate everything mindset.
• Agile project management experience.

Desired Characteristics:

• Experience with cloud-native playout vendor solutions.
• Knowledge of DevSecOps principles.

Salary Range: $130,000 - $170,000 (bonus eligible)
