NBCUniversal Operations & Technology is seeking a Manager, Playout Engineering to lead a team of DevOps and Site Reliability Engineers.
This team is driving the migration of 'master control' playout from on-premises to a cloud-native, scalable solution. All NBCUniversal live linear channels (NBC, Telemundo, USA, Peacock Virtual Channels, etc.) are in scope.
You will create, deploy, and support cutting-edge technology for live linear playout, adapting to new business needs, scalability, on-demand capabilities, tiered reliability, optimized content supply chains, and the latest video/audio advancements.
Responsibilities Include:
- Leading a team of ~10 DevOps and SRE engineers.
- Providing broadcast automation support for the master control playout ecosystem.
- Deploying broadcast automation software to the cloud using CI/CD tools.
- Validating software functionality in development and staging environments before production deployment.
- Creating project planning conceptual drawings.
- Estimating cloud usage costs for project proposals.
- Driving automation and remote deployments.
- Providing L2 & L3 support for playout infrastructure/services (including on-call support).
- Managing highly reliable, enterprise-scale on-air systems.
- Developing monitoring dashboards and automated alerting using Splunk & Grafana.
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
- 5+ years of hands-on engineering experience with broadcast automation playout environments (e.g., Snell, Harris, Imagine, Amagi).
- 2+ years of engineering management/team lead experience.
- 24/7 on-call availability for escalations.
- Hands-on Linux administration experience.
- Experience with automation platforms (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Experience with monitoring/logging tools (e.g., Splunk, Grafana).
- Experience with automated deployment CI/CD tools (e.g., Argo CD, GitHub Actions).
- Knowledge of streaming protocols and codecs (e.g., TS, HEVC, H.264, HLS, CMAF, SCTE-35, SCTE-224, ESAM, SRT/RIST).
- Experience with IP networking and cloud-based network interfacing.
- Experience with containerization (Docker & Kubernetes).
- Experience building and operating infrastructure within a large enterprise and interfacing with multiple technology teams.
- Strong communication and articulation skills.
- Expertise in broadcast playout systems (master control) technologies.
- Public cloud expertise, specifically building environments using AWS services.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment.
- An automate-first, automate-everything mindset.
- Agile process proficiency for project management, development, and tracking.
Desired Characteristics:
- Experience with cloud-native playout vendor solutions.
- DevSecOps experience.
- User interface design experience based on client workflows.

Salary Range: $130,000-$170,000 (bonus eligible)
