Full-Time Manager, Software Engineering (SAP S/4 ABAP)

Project Keystone will be a multi-year endeavor, driving NBCUniversal’s transformation goal of building a globally standardized, flexible, and data-driven business platform that enables NBCU to make better and faster decisions based on real time insights.

Our product and engineering teams will drive transformation of key Finance processes across Record-to-Report (RTR), Procure-to-Pay (PTP), Order-to-Cash (OTC), Treasury, Tax and FP&A. In addition, our engineering teams will play a key role in cross-functional workstreams like Transformation Management Office (TMO), master data governance, reporting, security, risk and controls and change management.

This position will provide state-of-art engineering and architectural support for the SAP S/4 HANA Procure-to-Pay (PTP) and Master Data Governance (MDG) system build and deployment including integration with other systems. This role manages and mentors internal and external engineering teams to deliver high-quality S/4 HANA clean core solutions through ABAP and Fiori development that meet or exceed overall PTP business requirements.

Responsibilities:

1. Manage onsite and offshore employee and vendor resources engaged in S/4 HANA SAP Development (ABAP and Fiori) for the PTP and MDG areas, taking accountability for their deliverables and quality adherence to NBCU engineering standards.
2. Collaborate with architects and engineering leads on SAP S/4 HANA engineering development strategy, architecture, and governance of application development and engineering activities for NBCU PTP/MDG processes.
3. Work with the Product (Functional) Teams and other engineering teams to architect, design, and evaluate technical design options for custom PTP development, keeping in mind SAP’s S/4 HANA clean core principles and NBCU best practices.
4. Provide technical work effort estimations for custom projects and ensure high-quality and on-schedule delivery.
5. Design, develop, track, and report on complex technical project plans in line with overall PMO timelines.
6. Take a lead role in maintaining and enforcing ABAP naming, coding, and development standards.
7. Provide architecture and design guidance to the development team, emphasizing SAP’s Clean Core principles. Utilize tools such as ATC (ABAP Test Cockpit), CCM (Custom Code Management), and others.
8. Work closely with Product, Change Management, Testing, and other Engineering teams like BASIS and BTP Integration to identify opportunities for PTP process improvements, automations, and cost savings.
9. Mentor and train engineering team members, keeping in mind NBCU’s Operations and Technology goals, to foster a high performing engineering team.
10. Drive Innovation and Exploration in the SAP Engineering space at NBCU, specifically within the PTP/MDG domains. Encourage and support experimentation with new SAP technologies and relevant tools. This includes dedicating team time for exploration, prototyping, organizing internal hackathons, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
11. Collaborate with architects and engineering leads to develop and maintain short, and long-term SAP roadmaps to include development, training, automation, and cybersecurity goals.

Education:

Education degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Engineering or related discipline with an information technology focus, or an equivalent combination of education and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Experience:

7+ years SAP ABAP engineering experience, including 2+ years as a Team Lead and/or people manager. Deep knowledge in various SAP modules, specifically within PTP (e.g., MM, SD, FI-AP), MDG, and Integration development working on large-scale SAP S/4 transformations.

Demonstrated experience managing and leading large development teams (30+ members) engaged in SAP ABAP and Fiori build activities, including estimating, planning, managing execution, and reporting on technical build activities, issues, and risks.

Deep knowledge of the ABAP development and testing lifecycle process including functional specification review through support during SIT, UAT, and Cutover.

Experience in an N+1 SAP landscape environment with parallel development tracks, including processes for merging changes.

Strong understanding of SAP PTP design and process flows, including Purchase Requisitions, Purchase Orders, Goods Receipt, Invoice Verification, Payment Processing, and related configurations.

Strong understanding of SAP MDG design and process flows, including Vendor, Customer, and Financial Master Data including related configurations.

Knowledge of underlying SAP S/4 HANA PTP/MDG views, table structures, and fields.

Awareness of common APIs, BAPIs, Workflows, and Function Modules in the PTP and MDG areas.

Experience in transformation projects, e.g., from SAP ECC to S/4 HANA (S/4 Conversions, green field, brown field, blue field, etc.), with a focus on PTP and MDG.

ECC Development Experience

Proven ability in traditional ECC development practices and techniques using BADIs, BAPIs, LSMW, ALE, RFC calls, IDOC, BDC, business objects, classes and methods, Adobe Forms, SmartForms, SAPScripts, Data Dictionary, ALV.

Strong ABAP debugging skills, performance monitoring and tracing, and workflow experience.

S/4 HANA Development Experience

Knowledge and awareness of SAP Clean Core principles, including released APIs, in-app extensibility options, and key user extensibility.

Knowledge of the 3-Tier extensibility model, RAP (Restful ABAP Programming), and CAP (Cloud Application Programming) models.

Experience migrating custom code base from ECC or Suite-on-HANA (SoH) systems onto an S/4 HANA platform, applying both technical remediation and Clean Core frameworks, with a focus on PTP-related customizations.

Knowledge of Native SQL, ADBC, External View, ABAP Core data Services, AMDP Procedures, Text Search, ALV on HANA.

Awareness of creating custom, and enhancing standard, CDS views and AMDP classes based on PTP business requirements.

Knowledge of OData services using CDS and AMDP, Workflow experience, including support and debugging.

Knowledge of other new SAP technologies such as Fiori SAPUI5 and SAP BTP Integration Suite.

Salary range: $140,000 - $180,000 (bonus eligible)
