The Hamilton Spectator is seeking an enthusiastic, experienced temporary full-time Reporter proficient in storytelling for digital and print platforms.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter, capable of producing a variety of stories on relevant topics for Hamilton Spectator and spec.com readers.
Essential skills:
- Proven ability in web filing under tight deadlines.
- Strong collaboration with local news editors to create engaging, local news stories using traditional and non-traditional methods.
- High-quality, trustworthy journalism with excellent reporting, researching, and data analysis skills.
- Generating engaging multimedia content for the website and social media (video, audio).
- Community travel to capture events (evenings, weekends).
- Strong news judgment.
- Strong communication skills (verbal & written, including Canadian Press Style).
- Proficient in social media and online posting.
- Effective organizational skills, time management, and prioritization.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong team player.
- Assets: Experience in data analysis, mapping, photography, video, and broadcasting.
- Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle.
Education: Diploma or Degree in Journalism or related field.
Compensation: $51,365.83 - $74,265.12 per year
