Job Details
Safety and Loss Control Consultant conducts loss analysis and research prior to on-site occupational safety and loss prevention surveys. Assess policyholder safety efforts and detect occupational safety hazards.
Prepare and submit reports of findings to management.
Make recommendations to management to correct hazards and safety and loss control program needs.
Participate in management training programs.
Research literature, laws, standards, and technical developments in safety and loss control.
Provide the Underwriting Department with risk assessments to support underwriting determinations.
Work with standard to large accounts and accounts presenting complex hazard and safety issues.
Mentor and guide Safety and Loss Control Trainees.
Participate in training sessions for policyholders.
Requires vast knowledge and experience with all aspects of loss control for property and casualty coverages (General and Products Liability, Workers’ Compensation, Property, Auto/Fleet, Risk Improvement).
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in safety, industrial hygiene, engineering or related field.
- Preferred: Master's degree in Safety or Industrial Hygiene.
- Preferred: 2+ years occupational safety management or consulting experience.
- Preferred certifications: CSP, CIH, ARM, ASP.
Knowledge of:
- Occupational safety and industrial hygiene process.
- Effective safety program management.
- Risk management related to safety and industrial hygiene.
- Workers’ compensation laws, policies, and rules.
- Insurance and risk management principles.
- Guaranteed cost, deductibles, retrospective rating plans.
- Accident prevention impact on each plan.
- Rating systems, experience modification factors.
- U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics loss information.
- Incidence rates for policyholders.
- Basic business financial principles.
Abilities
- Make sound judgments and work independently.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Compile, analyze, and report on findings.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Operate a motor vehicle safely.
- Valid driver’s license.
Working Knowledge of
- Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Federal OSHA, MSHA, DOT, NFPA standards.
