Job Details

We are seeking a Mid-level Sediment Environmental Scientist with 5 to 10 years of experience in environmental science and sediment remediation. This role is ideal for a candidate with a strong foundation in environmental science, sediment assessments, and remediation technologies.

The successful candidate will support the investigation, design, and implementation of sediment remediation projects in aquatic and terrestrial environments. Experience with CERCLA (Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act) regulations is desirable.

In this role, you will assist in site investigations, environmental assessments, and help develop and implement remediation plans. You will work closely with senior scientists, engineers, and project managers to ensure projects are completed successfully, in compliance with regulatory standards, and within budget and schedule.

We are open to having the candidate work from any location within the US Mainland, in what is our preferred work model of a hybrid basis, but we are open to candidates working 100 percent remotely, depending on their current location within the US.

We are also flexible to part time OR full time roles as well.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Sediment Site Investigations & Sampling: Conduct sediment site assessments, including collecting samples and conducting environmental field investigations. Analyze and interpret data from soil, sediment, water, and biota to identify contamination levels and environmental risks.
  2. Data Analysis & Reporting: Assist in the analysis of sediment sampling data, including contaminant levels, sediment composition, and ecological risks. Prepare technical reports summarizing findings and recommending remedial actions. Ensure data quality and regulatory compliance.
  3. Remedial Design Support: Support the development of sediment remediation strategies, such as dredging, capping, in-situ treatment, and stabilization. Assist in designing and recommending effective and cost-efficient remedial measures based on site-specific conditions.
  4. Regulatory Compliance & Documentation: Prepare and review regulatory documents required for CERCLA compliance, including site assessments, remedial investigation reports, and remedial action plans. Work with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental laws.
  5. Project Support & Coordination: Assist project teams in managing day-to-day project tasks. Coordinate field activities, data collection efforts, and project logistics to ensure that work is performed in a safe and efficient manner. Support senior staff in managing schedules, budgets, and project deliverables.
  6. Career Progression & Project Management Development: Transition from scientific-focused responsibilities to taking on increased project management duties, including managing smaller to mid-sized sediment remediation projects. Develop project management skills by overseeing the execution of key project deliverables, managing project budgets and timelines, and ensuring quality control.
  7. Environmental Health & Safety Compliance: Assist in the development and implementation of Health and Safety Plans (HASPs) for field projects. Ensure that fieldwork complies with health and safety protocols and best practices.
  8. Post-Remediation Monitoring & Evaluation: Assist in post-remediation site monitoring efforts to track the success of remediation measures. Help collect and analyze post-remediation data and prepare reports on long-term site recovery and stability.
