Full-Time Senior Backend Engineer

Role OverviewWe seek a Senior Backend Engineer to join our small, collaborative team. You'll work closely with the engineering lead to develop and enhance our Rails codebase, significantly influencing our technical direction. This role combines hands-on development with building cutting-edge AI-enhanced software for EV charging infrastructure.

Technical EnvironmentOur stack includes: Ruby on Rails 6, PostgreSQL, Redis, Sidekiq, RESTful and GraphQL APIs, React, and React Native. We're transitioning some Turbo-driven UIs to modern React components and integrating LLMs.

Key Outcomes and Responsibilities

• Be the Backend Expert, owning our Rails applications.
• Partner with the engineering lead on development and maintenance, taking ownership of key components.
• Implement best practices for API design, security, and performance optimization.
• Develop and maintain well-structured, testable, and efficient code.
• Design database schemas and data models supporting mobile applications.
• Work across backend systems, building platform capabilities and APIs.
• Design and implement RESTful and GraphQL APIs, architecting scalable solutions.
• Collaborate with engineering lead, senior data engineer, and senior frontend engineer.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and technical discussions.
• Deliver production-ready code, balancing immediate needs and long-term maintainability.
• Take ownership of backend delivery timelines and identify technical debt.

Skills and Qualifications

• Expert-level Ruby on Rails development (4+ years)
• Strong API design and PostgreSQL expertise
• Self-directed, owning systems with minimal oversight
• Excited about building LLM-enhanced products
• Excellent communication skills
