AECOM is seeking a highly talented Senior Project Botanist for immediate employment within the Southern California Natural Resources Group.
This is a field-based, on-call (as needed), remote position requiring technical expertise for the central Nevada region but linked to a Southern California-based office.
Required Experience and Skills:
- Training and/or experience conducting surveys for and extensive knowledge of sensitive plant species local to southern California and Nevada desert regions.
- Leads large-scale field efforts and intensive schedules.
- Technical field support throughout Nevada with a focus on conducting biological surveys for sensitive plant species.
- Assignments may include vegetation mapping, wildlife assessments, rare plant surveys, and/or regulatory compliance and permitting implementation.
- Manages large-scale compliance projects requiring adherence to permit conditions.
- Supports career development of junior staff in the practice.
- Capability to work long field days (10-12 hours), on occasion and as needed
- Capability to hike strenuously for several hours in a row at elevation
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field (biology, ecology, or project management/controls).
- 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education in botanical field work.
- Valid driver license is required and must be able to safely drive to job sites.
- Valid USFWS 10(a) permits to conduct wildlife protocol surveys in Southern California (Preferred).
Preferred Skills/Experience:
- Master’s Degree in related field (biology, ecology, or project management/controls)
- 8+ years of experience in natural resources/project management.
- Experience with career development of junior and mid-level biologists.
- Experience with habitat assessments and botanical surveys.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of and experience with Nevada flora, including use of local floras and dichotomous keys.
- Fluency with plant identification tools (e.g., The Jepson eFlora, The Flora of North America, other dichotomous keys, local floras, and electronic resources).
- Knowledge of botanical and wetland regulations and best practice.
- Experience collecting plant voucher specimens for submittal to an herbarium.
- Ability to work in a high-paced environment where changing client priorities result in the need to determine creative ways to get the job done.
- Experience working on utility projects in the U.S. Southwest.
- Wetland Delineation experience and certification.
US Citizenship is required.
