About The Position As a Senior Software Engineer at KIPP, you will play a critical role within the Application Development team, responsible for developing and supporting custom applications and integrating vendor solutions. You'll design and develop applications impacting student success, overseeing system integrations for seamless data flow. This role includes application support to maintain system functionality and stability. Collaborate with KIPP stakeholders and internal teams for innovative solutions empowering KIPP's growth. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members.
Responsibilities
- Application Design and Development: Scope user requirements, align technical solutions with KIPP's mission. Provide expertise in developing new features and determining platforms for new initiatives. Propose comprehensive architectures, aligning with KIPP's technology strategy. Design information architecture, navigation layouts for enhanced user experience. Customize and enhance applications across platforms. Oversee and review consultant technical designs/code ensuring quality and alignment with KIPP standards. Ensure unit testing and user acceptance testing for high-quality applications.
- DevOps and Deployment: Oversee deployment pipelines for smooth delivery across environments. Collaborate with development and operations teams for seamless integration and system stability. Manage and automate release processes minimizing downtime and risk. Configure and optimize development, staging, and production environments for performance, availability, and security. Monitor application and infrastructure health and proactively address issues for high availability. Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures. Collaborate on version control, code repositories, branching, and merging strategies. Maintain servers and manage infrastructure scaling/optimization.
- Application Support and Infrastructure: Provide Tier II support for application issues, collaborating with the Helpdesk Technician. Provide technical guidance to other IT team members. Collaborate with IT Operations team for patching, upgrades, and maintenance. Develop processes for data security, high availability, and disaster recovery.
- Documentation: Provide written design documents and update documentation accurately. Maintain thorough documentation of application development infrastructure, including server, database inventories, application licenses, and resources.

Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of software development experience emphasizing hands-on development, architecture, integration, delivering complex solutions, and technical leadership.
- Expertise in Salesforce application building/enhancement (APEX, Flows, Lightning Components, Visualforce, SOQL).
- Proficiency in OOP languages (C#), front-end technologies (HTML, JavaScript, CSS).
- Database management experience (SQL Server, BigQuery, data modeling), integration via API endpoints (OAuth2).
- Familiarity with DevOps practices (CI/CD, version control, automated deployments).
- Cloud environment experience (Azure), application infrastructure management for high availability.
- CMS platform (WordPress), marketing tools (HubSpot), system integration tools (SSIS), identity management with OneLogin.
- Proficiency in project management/collaboration tools (Jira, Smartsheet, Microsoft Office 365, Teams).

Work Conditions
- Travel: 2-4 work trips (2-4 days each) for team stepbacks/staff retreats.
- Location: NYC or Chicago office preferred, but remote work is an option.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $130,000 - $160,000
