Full-Time Senior Software Engineer

Marqeta is seeking talented Senior Software Engineers to join our Engineering team. We work Flexible First, and this role can be performed remotely within the United States. We’d love for you to join us!

1. Banking & Money Movement: Develops and optimizes financial services (account creation, transaction processing, payment systems, banking integrations, reporting, reconciliation). Collaboratively ensures secure, efficient, and innovative solutions meeting regulatory standards and enhancing user experiences in moving money.
2. Transaction Management & Message Delivery: Owns Transaction Management and Webhooks Message Delivery Systems, providing an efficient, secure, and durable means of authorization service flow and critical message delivery of financial data.
3. 3DS: Improves e-commerce security by requiring cardholders to complete additional verification steps with the card issuer during certain transactions.
4. Credit (Rewards): Responsible for accurate and timely accrual and redemption of credit rewards. A high-performing team working on a high-impact project to create a new rewards platform allowing customers to customize accrual, conversion, and redemption.
5. Transaction Accuracy: Ensures accuracy in payment processing, adhering to major credit card network rules. Responsible for converting transactional data and validating payment flows, impacting customer and cardholder experience.

Who You Are

• 5+ years backend engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3+ years with an advanced degree; or 8+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
• Experience building scalable software platforms.
• Experience developing in Java.
• Experience with SQL and Microservices.
• Experience working with distributed systems.
• Experience making technical trade-offs and navigating technical complexities.
• Experience troubleshooting production issues.
• Ability to decompose business problems into solutions with multiple interacting components.
• Ability to build correct and maintainable software components.
• Focus on quality and meeting deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
• Ability to share information, including complex trade-offs.
• Ability to work with cross-functional stakeholders.

Nice to haves

• Experience with payments or FinTech.
• Experience with AWS technologies.
• Experience in software delivery pipelines, CI/CD systems, and software deployment.
• Experience with Kubernetes and/or Docker.
• Contributions to technical blogs, a public GitHub repo, or open-source projects.
• Experience with unit testing, functional testing, and integration testing.
• Experience with end-to-end service ownership, infrastructure maintenance, IaC technologies, CI/CD, and observability tools.

Compensation

Compensation is aligned to three tiers within the US based on cost of living: National, Premium, and Premium Plus.
