Full-Time Senior Software Engineer

We’re looking for a senior engineer experienced in Python to join our team. We have a small, growing, and highly-capable development team. This Level 2 Senior Engineer should be comfortable leading and mentoring developing engineers.

As you would be working for a fast-growing start-up, your role would be wide-ranging. In this role, we’re looking for someone who can successfully navigate uncertainty and lead complex projects to success. As a leader on the team, you’d have a large impact on the growth and direction of the development team.

We work heavily with the following tools and technologies:

• Python, Django, and a wide range of Python libraries
• SQL databases, specifically Postgresql
• Data warehousing and processing tools like Amazon Redshift and Apache Airflow
• Open source web infrastructure components, like memcached and Redis
• Cloud environments, including AWS and Heroku
• A range of AI and Machine Learning tools, which we use to process and enhance our data

Job Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor developing engineers
• Manage complex projects from design to delivery
• Drive cross-functional discussions to unearth requirements and architect elegant technical solutions
• Develop Django-based applications using Python, Postgresql, etc.
• Work with large data sets and pipelines, including data cleaning, analysis, etc.
• Write effective, scalable, and testable code
• Improve functionality of existing systems
• Follow security and data protection best practices

Requirements

• 7+ years work experience in Python, or strong experience in another programming language and some exposure to Python
• Expertise in at least one popular Python web framework (preferably Django) or a similar popular web framework in another language (like Ruby or Rails)
• Good understanding of SQL and how to efficiently use databases to solve problems
• Familiarity with front-end technologies (like JavaScript and HTML5)
• Ability to work effectively in a remote environment and help foster a healthy team spirit
• Exemplary problem-solving and communication skills
• Ability to navigate uncertainty and lead complex projects to success
• BSc in Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field, or equivalent experience/knowledge. We are happy to work with strong candidates with non-traditional educational backgrounds.

Bonus Points

• Experience working on open-source projects
• Experience with git and GitHub
• Understanding of emerging AI patterns, such as RAG and Agentic Workflows
• Experience using Pandas, Numpy, or Dask (or the like) to analyze large data sets. Additional bonus points if you have experience managing & analyzing healthcare data!
