In this role, you will get opportunity to take your next step as a Senior Strategic Planner being part of an experienced and passionate and multi-disciplinary planning team and contribute to diverse strategic planning and projects, such as the development of policies and strategies and their implementation through planning scheme amendments.

What you’ll be doing:

• Assist in the preparation of new structure plans and development plans for residential, employment areas and activity centres.
• Participate, and where directed, lead the review and development of new planning strategies, design guidelines, local policies, and other plans of Council.
• Review and report on the strategic planning implications of Planning Scheme Amendments proposed by Council or State Government initiatives or requested by the public or developers.
• Prepare amendments to the Hume Planning Scheme and undertake all associated administrative functions required under the Planning and Environment Act 1987.
• Review new development proposals ensuring that such proposals meet with the objectives of the Hume Planning Scheme and strategic intent of Council.
• Represent Council on inter-municipal and inter-governmental working parties and forums concerning strategic planning and growth issues affecting the municipality.
• Prepare and present high-level reports and submissions of a strategic planning nature at Panel Hearings and to other review forums.
• Use appropriate consultation and promotion programs for the dissemination of timely information aimed at increasing awareness of strategic planning issues in the community.
• Assist in administration of Infrastructure and Development Contribution Plans, including the preparation of Section 173 Agreements with landowners and developers to secure in kind provision of works and land in lieu of development contributions.

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:

• Working knowledge of planning legislation and other related planning land use policies and strategies and their application and delivery.
• Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work and contribute effectively within a team environment.
• Ability to problem solve and identify optimal solutions to land use planning issues.
• Ability to provide a strategic perspective and an integrated approach to the consideration and assessment of development opportunities and proposals.
• Demonstrated ability to manage workload and deliver projects to agreed timeframes.

Required Certifications & Qualifications:

Tertiary qualifications in urban and regional planning or related fields.
