Full-time position for direct hire to QAD, no visa sponsorship available.
Employee must be located in Canada, no relocation assistance available.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain QAD Redzone API Backend (Scala), ensuring seamless user experience for manufacturing front-line teams.
- Develop and enhance manufacturing workflows in Redzone Web applications.
- Complete sprint work to achieve business goals.
- Help maintain competitive edge by leveraging latest Scala and Web technologies.
- Provide subject matter expertise during incidents to resolve customer issues quickly.
- Participate in forums to explore interests and contribute to continuous system improvement.
- Commit to the team to help achieve goals.
- Write testable and maintainable code.
Required experience: 5+ years of relevant experience as a Backend Engineer.
Required languages: Scala (5+ years) and Java
Computer skills:
- API-first design using Open Api Spec (OAS)
- Generating Tapir endpoints and models from OAS
- Maintaining versioned API contracts
- Transforming objects with Chimney
- Async programming with Cats Effect
- Publishing and consuming Avro formatted Kafka messages
- Relational table design with PostgreSQL
- Transactional database access with Slick or Doobie
- Database migration patterns (expand and contract)
- Writing observable and testable code using libraries like Specs2 and ScalaMock
- Refactoring and building in large legacy code bases
- Modularized programming mentality

Compensation:
Base pay range: $170,000-190,000 CAD Annual (12 Months). Placement varies based on knowledge, skills, experience, and market location variations, and internal peer equity.
Eligible for annual company performance bonus.
