The Role
The Staff Delivery Manager leads and empowers the Product & Engineering organization to deliver high-quality projects and products through mentorship, coaching, and the removal of obstacles. They facilitate alignment on objectives, ensure clear communication of progress, and foster collaboration across the organization.
By establishing well-defined SDLC processes and a shared understanding of expectations for each role, the Staff Delivery Manager enables the consistent delivery of functional software and the continuous improvement of agile practices across the organization.
What You Will Do
- Lead complex initiatives: Using agile practice to drive complex initiatives, crossing departments, from inception to completion, ensuring seamless coordination between diverse stakeholders.
- Facilitate decision-making: Collaborate with key decision-makers to eliminate roadblocks and enable the timely delivery of high-quality software within established parameters.
- Foster cross-functional collaboration: Act as a liaison between stakeholders, promoting transparency, clear communication, and swift resolution of impediments.
- Proactively address ambiguity: Proactively designs systems to clarify uncertainties, establishes a shared understanding among team members, and coaches teams toward alignment.
- Oversee SDLC: Manage the design of the software development lifecycle, ensuring adherence to agreed-upon best practices.
- Cultivate agile proficiency: Coaching leadership to empower teams to embrace and refine their agile practices, providing guidance, training, and coaching for continuous improvement.
- Champion agile principles: Helps business leaders understand how to apply agile principles to empower their teams to solve business problems.
- Empower agile ceremonies: Understands the principles that ceremonies embody, and has the ability to coach various levels and different departments of the organization.
- Encourage agile experimentation: Guide the organization through creating a culture of experimentation to continuously improve, employing systems thinking to drive improvement of the whole SDLC.
- Align priorities: Facilitate a balance between the needs of product, engineering, and quality assurance, fostering a collaborative environment inside and outside of teams.
- Identify and address skill gaps: Proactively recognize and resolve skill or knowledge deficiencies that hinder the organization's ability to deliver incremental value.
- Ensure backlog quality: Coaches Product Managers, Designers, and Quality team members to ensure backlog items are well-defined, prioritized, and aligned with organizational goals. Guides organization leaders to develop and maintain a healthy organizational backlog.
- Enhance team dynamics: Skillfully manage conflicts and foster a positive, collaborative working environment amongst all stakeholders of the SDLC.
- Monitor team health: Designs solutions to track and monitor both team and SDLC health. Identifies trends and empowers the organization by radiating information out with an eye to resolution.
- Stay informed: Continuously expand knowledge of agile frameworks and practices, evaluating their potential benefits for the team.
- Jira Administration: Collaboratively administers the configuration of Jira in a way that keeps simplicity, flexibility, and ability to deliver top of mind.
- Forecast Facilitation: Ensures an organizational understanding of probabilistic forecasting methods. Ensures the Engineering Manager has the necessary forecasting training and tools. Establishes a process for regular communication of forecasts from the Engineering Manager to the Product Manager and Delivery Team. Ensures the Product Manager proactively updates stakeholders on any changes or risks, promoting transparency and early mitigation.
What You Need to Succeed
- Experience implementing agile solutions at all levels of the SDLC, specifically at the organizational level
- Understanding of the SDLC and how each stage of it impacts delivery output and quality
- Proven experience facilitating agile transformations across varied landscapes
- Ability to coach senior-level leaders in agile practice
- Kanban, SAFe, Scrum certification
