Base is aiming to bring a million developers and a billion users onchain. We need your machine learning expertise. Base's mission is to build a global onchain economy that enhances innovation, creativity, and economic freedom. Spindl (part of the Base team) helps pay for this by incentivizing developers and providing reliable methods to acquire new users. Spindl is building the first natively onchain advertising product with full-funnel attribution, analytics, and a transparent marketplace. Our goal is to surpass legacy systems like Facebook and Google with blockchain's advantages: transparency, seamless payments, better privacy, and shared consensus.
We are seeking a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to join the Base Ads team and accelerate Spindl's success, specifically focusing on the soon-to-be-launched Flywheel protocol. You will be the first MLE on the team, responsible for building the ranking system from the ground up. You will pick tools, leverage internal and external data sources, collaborate with Data Science on feature generation, and integrate models into the ad serving infrastructure.
What you'll do:
- Investigate and apply cutting-edge ML methodologies (deep learning, LLMs, graph neural networks) to address diverse challenges like feed ranking, recommendations, targeting, fraud detection, chatbots, and blockchain mining.
- Develop and deploy robust, low-maintenance ML solutions in a production environment.
- Create onboarding codelabs, tools, and infrastructure to encourage widespread ML usage across Base.
What we look for:
- 7+ years of experience as a machine learning and software engineer.
- Experience building and deploying scalable backend systems focused on data processing, machine learning, and analytics.
- Demonstrate core cultural values (positive energy, clear communication, curiosity, being a builder).
- Interest in the crypto ecosystem and onchain data.
Nice to haves:
- BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Mining, Statistics, or related field.
- Knowledge of Apache Airflow, Spark, Flink, Kafka/Kinesis, Snowflake, Hadoop, Hive.
- Experience with Python, model interpretability, responsible AI, data analysis, and visualization.
