Full-Time Staff Software Engineer, Privacy

Join the Privacy team at Airbnb to enhance transparency, empower the global community, and build user trust. The Privacy Engineering team is building cutting-edge technologies to protect user data and ensure compliance with global privacy regulations.

What problems are we solving? We tackle complex challenges in data protection, privacy compliance, and user trust at scale. We are building solutions to ensure data protection and compliance measures at the core of Airbnb's infrastructure.

Data Classification & Compliance: Handling massive user data requires robust data classification, governance, and access control mechanisms. We develop scalable systems to automate data tagging, enforce retention policies, and detect policy violations.

Preserving AI/ML Privacy: We ensure user control and regulatory compliance over data used in AI/ML models.

User Consent & Data Subject Rights: Empower users with fine-grained control over their data.

Your day-to-day responsibilities include providing thought leadership, defining strategy, influencing cross-functional collaboration, and driving architectural decisions to enable Privacy by Design in all engineering & product development processes. You will lead multi-team technical initiatives and work cross-functionally to identify opportunities for business impact.

Your expertise requires a BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field (or equivalent experience). 10+ years of experience in software engineering is needed.

Privacy experience includes familiarity with AI/ML governance and integrating privacy safeguards into AI/ML pipelines. Experience with data anonymization and designing privacy-aware AI/ML models is essential.

Location: US - Remote Eligible. May include occasional work at an Airbnb office or offsites.
