RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client that is seeking a z/OS System Programmer in Rosemont, IL.
Summary:
As a z/OS System Programmer, you will be responsible for maintaining and optimizing the z/OS operating system environment. Your role involves ensuring the stability, security, and performance of mainframe systems.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
System Design and Optimization:
* Collaborate with architects and other teams to design, implement, and optimize z/OS system components
* Evaluate system performance, identify bottlenecks, and recommend improvements
Database Management:
* Manage databases on z/OS, including backup and recovery procedures
* Ensure data integrity, availability, and performance
Automation:
* Develop and maintain automation scripts to streamline repetitive tasks
* Monitor system metrics and automate routine functions
Communication and Documentation:
* Communicate effectively with team members, stakeholders, and end-users
* Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps
Problem Resolution:
* Detect, analyze, and resolve system faults promptly
* Investigate performance issues and implement corrective actions
Maintenance and Tools:
* Utilize maintenance tools and procedures to keep the system up to date
* Stay informed about industry trends and best practices
Programming and Design:
* Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., COBOL, Assembler, PL/I)
* Apply design techniques to enhance system reliability and efficiency
REQUIREMENTS:
* 10+ years of work experience in NonStop/Tandem environments
* Solid understanding of system, application, and database design principles
* Familiarity with replication, performance factors, monitoring tools, and tuning procedures
* Understanding of productivity factors and their impact on overall system and database performance
* Knowledge of fault detection, analysis, and resolution processes
* Proficiency in maintenance tools and procedures
* Strong database management skills, including backup and recovery
* Ability to automate repeatable functions and generate system metrics

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
