Job Details
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in strengthening the financial crime framework of a fast-growing cryptoasset business. As Australia Deputy MLRO, you'll work closely with the MLRO and risk and compliance leadership to ensure the firm remains compliant with evolving regulations while navigating the unique risks associated with cryptoassets. You'll gain exposure to a wide range of compliance activities, and help shape policies and procedures that support the business's growth and obligations.
What you will do
- Support the MLRO in maintaining and developing the financial crime framework and policies and procedures, including AML, CTF, CPF and sanctions.
- Maintain oversight of financial crime compliance activities, including CDD, ongoing monitoring, reporting and blockchain analytics.
- Be proactive in enhancing the financial crime compliance function.
- Act as a key point of escalation for complex cryptoasset transactions.
- Act as a point of contact for external functions within the Group and for external parties like third party providers and regulatory authorities.
- Oversee the effectiveness of KYC/CDD, EDD, and ongoing monitoring controls.
- Prepare and deliver internal reporting, including management information, regulatory submissions, and Board-level updates on financial crime risks and controls.
- Keep up to date with evolving global regulations, FATF guidance, and typologies relevant to crypto and decentralised finance (DeFi).
- Provide training and practical guidance to the compliance team, senior management team and broader business on AML requirements, emerging risks, and crypto-specific red flags.
- Act as deputy to the MLRO, including representing the firm during regulatory audits, supervisory engagements, and industry working groups.
What you will be working with/on
- You'll take a hands-on role in managing the firm's day-to-day AML compliance activities, including transaction monitoring, business risk assessments, customer risk assessments, and SAR reporting.
- You'll act as a key escalation point for complex cases, particularly those involving crypto transactions, high-risk customers, and emerging financial crime risks.
- You'll be reviewing and strengthening our KYC, CDD, EDD, and ongoing monitoring processes to ensure they stay effective and proportionate to our risk exposure.
- You'll help to develop and update internal financial crime policies, procedures, and guidance, ensuring they remain aligned with regulatory expectations and the evolving crypto landscape.
- Your work will extend to producing management information and regulatory reports, and contributing to the ongoing development of the financial crime framework as the business scales.
About You
- A minimum of 3 years experience in financial crime compliance, preferably within crypto, fintech, or financial services.
- In-depth knowledge of KYC, CDD, EDD, and transaction monitoring practices in Australia, with the ability to apply them in a practical, risk-based manner.
- Familiarity with the financial crime typologies unique to cryptoassets, including blockchain data analysis, DeFi, and cross-chain activity.
- Proven ability to manage complex investigations and make sound, risk-based decisions
- Experience in leading or assisting in the licensing or registering of cryptoasset businesses.
- Experience using or overseeing blockchain analytics tools is an advantage.
- Strong judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritise competing demands.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with internal teams, senior management, and regulators.
- A proactive approach to staying informed about evolving regulatory requirements and emerging cryptoasset financial crime trends.
- Ability to work independently while fostering collaboration across compliance, operations, and business teams.
- Knowledge of the crypto space and blockchain technologies.
- A great attitude and team player.
- Bachelor's degree (or its equivalent) in a relevant subject.
