AECOM seeks a motivated Avian Field Biologist for on-call, project-based work in Imperial and Riverside County. This remote position requires being local on assignments.
Responsibilities include:
- Wildlife/botanical surveys (including vegetation mapping)
- Special-status species surveys
- Avian species identification & mortality monitoring
- Project execution (pre-construction, construction monitoring)
- Environmental compliance monitoring
- Botanical knowledge & phenology evaluation for native seed scouting
- Restoration crew oversight & native seed collection
- Restoration vegetation performance monitoring
- Electronic data collection (GPS, data management & analysis)
- Fieldwork (inland/desert environments)
- Task management & budget adherence
- Compliance concern escalation
- Safety plan adherence
Burrowing Owl Qualifications:
- Species knowledge & local ecology
- Habitat assessments & surveys (non-breeding/breeding seasons)
- Familiarity with relevant state/federal statutes
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in related field (biology, ecology, etc.) or demonstrated equivalent
- Valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1+ year avian biology experience
- Consulting experience (preferred, but not required)
- Survey/compliance/construction oversight experience
- Desert Tortoise/Flat-tailed Horned Lizard survey experience
- Mitigation, monitoring, reporting program familiarity
- Construction-associated projects (transmission/utility)
- Familiarity with regulations (Endangered Species Act, NEPA, CEQA, Clean Water Act)
US Citizenship Required.
