Job Description: The Washington Post is seeking a collaborative, creative journalist and technologist to build data pipelines, unlock new data sources, and use quantitative analysis to cover topics like education and criminal justice. This data reporting role involves implementing DevOps best practices for the data reporting team.
The Post's data reporting team works across the newsroom to unearth impactful stories from data. This reporter will be embedded with the National desk, collaborating with national correspondents on diverse topics, and working on complex journalism projects with colleagues from various disciplines.

Responsibilities:
- Identify data-driven stories, pitch new ideas, and enhance others' ideas with novel analysis and data-gathering approaches.
- Handle large, complex datasets, create replicable workflows for cloud computing, big data storage, and ETL processes.
- Establish DevOps best practices for data team infrastructure, analyze large datasets, and deploy internal tools.
- Collaborate with journalists across the team and newsroom on various storytelling formats.
- Acquire data, conduct statistical analysis, and pursue traditional reporting.
- Work on breaking news and long-term projects.
Qualifications:
- At least 3 years of professional journalism experience.
- Expert-level skills in an analysis language like R or Python.
- Experience with machine learning and AI techniques is a plus.
- Experience deploying software to cloud-computing providers (AWS or Heroku), using Docker, Linux, Google BigQuery or other engineering tools is highly beneficial.
- Team spirit and keen instincts for data to yield compelling stories.
This position is in Washington, D.C.
Salary Range: $109,200 - $182,000
