GENERAL SUMMARY:Tempo Learning faculty subject matter experts (faculty SMEs) are student-facing faculty roles. Faculty SMEs are faculty members assigned to one or more competencies based on their subject matter expertise. The core responsibility of faculty SMEs is to serve as the central academic content support for Tempo Learning students.
Faculty subject matter expert primary responsibilities:
- Work directly with students to assist with any questions or challenges.
- Initiate regular academic engagement with students.
- Document all student academic engagement.
- Hold weekly office hours.
- Respond promptly to student questions.
- Validate student assessments.
- Use corrective feedback sparingly, emphasizing positive feedback.
- Track student engagement and identify students needing intervention.
- Assure curriculum quality.
- Establish regular contact with students.
- Develop sensitivity to cultural differences.
- Develop a repertoire of online discussion catalysts.
- Encourage students to take risks and learn from mistakes.
- Monitor all students’ work for academic integrity.
- Review competency content and recommend updates.

Course Teaching/Availability:
- Assigned to specific competency modules.
- Collaborate with Academic Coaches and other faculty.
- Interact with students within the context of specific modules.
- Discussion Boards and online activities are available 24/7.
- Assignments/assessments completed in a timely manner.
- Respond to student inquiries within 48 hours.
- Return assessments with feedback within 72 hours.
- Publish availability to students in the Tempo Learning platform.
Technology Requirements:
- Adequate computer, keyboard, and monitor.
- Microsoft Office products (Word/Excel/PowerPoint), zip software, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Reliable internet access with alternate access.
Licensing/Certification:
- Appropriate credentials, earned degree, and potential licensure.
- Maintain licenses and certifications.
- Maintain currency with research.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Earned MSN and Doctorate (preferably in Nursing).
- Record of professional scholarly contributions.
- Minimum of two years' experience teaching nursing undergraduate courses.
- Experience with distance learning preferred.
- Current compact RN licensure required.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and human relations skills.
