Job Overview We are seeking a Education Data Architect who will serve as the bridge between higher education institutions' business operations and Stellic's SaaS platform.
This role combines deep understanding of higher education business processes, particularly around student information systems (SIS), with the technical expertise needed to ensure successful data integration. The ideal candidate will help institutions optimize their existing workflows while designing and implementing data feeds that properly integrate their SIS data with Stellic's platform through our ETL processes. Must be willing to travel up to 25% (typically 3-4 days) to partner on-sites for implementation purposes.
- Core Objectives
- Guide institutions through business process analysis and optimization during Stellic implementation
- Design and implement robust data feeds that accurately capture institutional data requirements
- Ensure data integrity by mapping institutional processes to appropriate SIS data structures and ETL workflows
- Support institutions in developing and maintaining reliable data integration pipelines
- Maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across academic affairs, registrar's office, and IT departments
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 5 years experience in higher education administration, preferably in registrar's office or academic affairs
- Deep understanding of higher education business processes, particularly around:
- Academic planning and degree requirements
- Course registration and enrollment
- Degree audit and progress tracking
- Academic policies and exceptions handling
Experience applying best practices in the use of the SIS for institutions to record data
- Experience helping higher education institutions evaluate how they implement SIS functionality
- Experience identifying and implementing process improvements that will benefit data management
- Strong technical expertise with demonstrated ability to:
- Design and implement data feeds for ETL processes
- Write and optimize complex SQL queries across different database systems
- Debug data integration issues and implement solutions
- Understand data structures and relationships in one or more major SIS platforms (Banner, PeopleSoft, etc.)
- Map business processes to technical data requirements
Experience with ETL tools and data integration methodologies
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
Experience leading process improvement initiatives in higher education
- Ideal Qualifications
- Previous experience as a registrar or associate registrar
- Hands-on experience with multiple SIS platforms (Banner, PeopleSoft, Workday Student, etc.)
- Experience designing and implementing data feeds for enterprise systems
- Project management certification (PMP, CAPM, or equivalent)
- Background in process improvement methodologies (Six Sigma, Lean, DevOps, etc.)
- Experience with change management in higher education settings
Key Responsibilities
Data Integration Design & Implementation
- Design and document data feed specifications based on institutional requirements
- Develop and optimize SQL queries for extracting data from various SIS systems
- Create and maintain data mapping documentation
- Troubleshoot data integration issues and implement solutions
- Validate data quality and consistency across systems
- Work with engineering team to optimize ETL processes
Business Process Consulting
- Lead discovery sessions to understand institutions' current processes and workflows
- Map business processes to required data elements
- Identify opportunities for process optimization during Stellic implementation
- Create process maps and documentation to guide implementation
- Develop best practices for common higher education scenarios
- Support partnership (sales) scoping conversations with prospective institutional partners to understand their integration environment and data systems
Stakeholder Management
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders across partner institutions
- Facilitate communication between technical and non-technical teams
- Lead training sessions on data feed maintenance and business process changes
- Create documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences
Compensation: $100,000 - $125,000 base salary, plus equity
