Forecast Model Analyst (Hybrid)

Under the general direction of the Director, develops and enhances energy efficiency models, demand response models, and other energy models. Incorporates impacts to the Short Term Load Forecast.

Key Responsibilities:

• Participates in research, development, and implementation of new forecasting tools.
• Validates, integrates, and prepares large datasets.
• Architects specialized database and computing environments.
• Communicates results clearly and effectively.
• Enhances current or develops new tools using computer programming languages (VBA, Python, Perl, etc.).
• Evaluates potential inefficiencies and seeks improvements.
• Researches, develops, and enhances complex energy models (short-term load, wind, solar, uncertainty, etc., including plug-in electric vehicles, distributive generation).
• Coordinates and participates in Short Term Forecasting projects.
• Conducts post-analysis to evaluate forecast accuracy.
• Stays abreast of forecasting developments in demand modeling and meteorology, and their impact on the organization.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree (BA, BS) in Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Meteorology, Economics, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
• Equivalent years of education and training, plus 2+ years related experience.
• Experience in Short or Long-Term forecasting (load, wind, solar, uncertainty) using ANN, SVM, machine learning, and/or regression techniques.
• Experience with numerical weather prediction.
• Experience with open-source projects demonstrating programming, mathematical, and machine learning abilities.
• Experience applying statistics, advanced mathematics, simulation, software development, and data modeling.
• Experience in data management, data warehousing, workflow development, and automation.
• Research experience in Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Neural Networks.
• Knowledge of electricity market designs and power system operations desired.
• Familiarity with Numerical Weather Prediction Models and statistical analysis of data.
• Familiarity with ITRON forecast model preferred.
• Proficient in programming languages (SQL, UNIX, C, C#, Python, NCL, Perl, Gempack, R, VBA, etc.).
