Oncology Data Specialist II Overview: The Oncology Data Specialist II role adheres to NM's mission, vision, values, and Code of Ethics. This role is focused on comprehensive cancer patient data management for the Northwestern Medicine Healthcare Corporation system.
Responsibilities:
- Review medical records to capture complete patient history, diagnosis, treatment, and health status for all cancer patients.
- Assist in maintaining cancer program accreditation requirements.
- Proactively address quality of care and documentation issues.
- Work collaboratively with physicians and staff at all levels.
- Ensure complete, accurate, and timely data abstraction for reportable cancer cases.
- Review case finding resources to identify reportable cases (ICD-10, pathology reports, etc.).
- Abstract patient information from electronic and/or manual records according to Commission on Cancer standards.
- Consult with physicians and facilities to obtain missing information.
- Understand current oncology treatment guidelines and document reasons for non-concordance.
- Find eligible cases using the EPIC system and other resources.
- Determine cancer status, progression, recurrence, and cause of death.
- Provide accurate survival information for all cancer sites.
- Maintain productivity of 20 cases per week and 95% accuracy.
- Understand departmental priorities and work independently.
- Assist with special projects.
- Maintain effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Assist with cross-coverage and workflow.
- Identify improvement opportunities.
- Assist with data reporting and requests.
- Complete other assigned duties.
Qualifications:
- ODS-Certified
- Minimum 3 years experience
- Strong Microsoft Office proficiency (Level 2 Excel/Word, PPT basic)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of Oncology Data Specialist experience
- Associate/Bachelor's degree in Health Information Technology or equivalent
- Experience with Epic, Mosaiq, and Cancer Registry Software
