Full-Time Power BI Developer

Position: Power BI Developer

Location: New York, NY (Hybrid)

Duration: 6+ months

Job Summary: As a Microsoft Power BI Developer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining business intelligence solutions using Power BI, Databricks and dbt. You will work closely with stakeholders to understand their reporting needs and deliver high-quality dashboards and reports that drive data-driven decision-making.

Experience Required:

• Power BI Reporting: Design and develop business intelligence dashboards, analytical reports and data visualizations using Power BI and providing access to different user groups. Expert knowledge of architecting and developing Power BI solutions by configuring the data security and assigning the licenses and sharing the reports and dashboards to the different user groups in the organization. Expert in writing parameterized queries for generating tabular reports, sub reports using global variables, expressions and functions, sorting of data, dashboards, scorecards, drill-down and drill-through reports, defining data sources and subtotals for the reports using paginated reports. Design and develop business intelligence dashboards, analytical reports and data visualizations using Power BI by creating multiple measures using DAX expressions for user groups. Use of Power BI Power Pivot to develop data analysis prototype, use Power View. Develop interactive reports and dashboards in Power BI to provide actionable insights and facilitate informed decision-making.
• Data Engineering: Experience in implementing Microsoft BI/Azure BI solutions like Power BI, Azure Databricks, Azure Analysis Services and SQL Server Reporting Services. Good Understanding of Azure Big data technologies like Azure Data Lake Analytics and Azure Data Lake Store. Involved in creating notebooks for moving data through the medallion architecture from raw to stage and then to curated zones using Databricks. Expert in data warehouse development starting from inception to implementation and ongoing support, strong understanding of BI application design and development principles using normalization and de-normalization techniques. Involved in developing complex Azure Analysis Services tabular databases and deploying the same in Microsoft azure and scheduling the cube through Azure Automation Runbook. Extensive experience in developing tabular models, Aggregation, KPIs, Measures.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather requirements and understand reporting needs.
• Use Databricks and dbt to create gold reporting objects to be used by Power BI dashboards.
• Design and develop interactive dashboards and reports using Microsoft Power BI.
• Create data models and perform data transformations using Power Query and DAX.
• Ensure data accuracy and integrity by implementing data validation and quality checks.
• Optimize Power BI reports for performance and usability.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to Power BI reports and dashboards.
• Document processes, data sources, and report specifications for future reference.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field.
• Min 5+ years' experience as a Power BI Developer or similar role.
• Strong proficiency in Power BI, including Power Query, DAX, and data modeling.
• Experience with SQL and relational databases.
• Familiarity with data visualization best practices and principles.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with other BI tools (e.g., IBM Cognos, Tableau, QlikView) is a plus. Reinsurance industry knowledge is preferred. Excellent knowledge of Azure cloud services and data warehousing concepts. Excellent knowledge of Databricks and dbt. Certification in Microsoft Power BI or related technologies.
