As a Process Safety Engineer, you'll work closely with Manufacturing plants, Technology, Global Engineering, Regional Quality and EHS functions in the VWTS business. Identify process safety risks in chemical manufacturing operations and develop mitigation strategies and programs. Provide technical guidance, direction, and training to plant staff and operators on process chemistry and process safety, ensuring awareness and adherence to operational parameters and safety limits. Lead and provide on-site support for start-up trials on new/improved processes. Participate in root cause analysis and implement corrective/preventive actions. Key Responsibilities: Support the Global Process Chemistry team to ensure process safety in projects and proper operating procedures at all reaction and blending plants. Maintain global communications for resource utilization across regions, meeting business needs of a global organization (Technology, Manufacturing, Sourcing, Product Quality, Business Units, Supply Chain). Represent Global Process Chemistry in team meetings and projects, ensuring process chemistry/safety requirements are met regionally and globally. Support Cost-out initiatives by investigating operational strategies (in-house production vs. tolling). Support the regional tolling technology transfer leader by assembling/providing toll manufacture SOPs, conducting EHS, Quality, and Engineering audits, and following up on corrective actions. Be a critical part of the qualification team throughout qualification process, guiding and supporting scale-up trials for safe operation and product quality. Work closely with the engineering team during design and commissioning of new engineering projects. Assemble process safety information (P&IDs, equipment design data, process parameters) for PHA/HAZOP. Implement company standards for hazardous processes (flammable materials, combustible dust, neutralization reactions). Implement, maintain, and improve the company's process safety program, maintaining compliance with OSHA, EPA, EU, and local requirements (Process Safety Management, RMP, Seveso). Drive continuous system/process improvements based on Digitization and Lean Six Sigma.
Core Requirements: Bachelor's degree in science (Chemical Engineering, Organic/Polymer Chemistry preferred). Master's degree highly preferred. 5-10 years experience with OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM). Detailed understanding of chemical plant processes and process safety. Experience in conducting employee Process Safety training. Ability to drive process safety compliance culture. Understanding of risks in blend plants (flammable chemicals, strong acids). Understanding of Process Hazard Assessments (PHA) and Process Risk Assessments (PRA). Ability to travel 30-50% of the time.
Other Useful Skills and Experience: 2+ years professional chemical industry experience. Familiar with NFPA 30 standard, OSHA regulations, Process Safety Management, EPA, and SEVESO. Familiar with WinCC or equivalent programs. Knowledge of SAP helpful. Familiar with Brilliant fulfillment/Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma.
