Reporting to the Director of Software Development, the QA Manager is responsible for overseeing the Quality Assurance department at WinAir, ensuring high-quality output for each sprint and project. The role involves managing the QA team, monitoring test milestones, and ensuring the team follows best practices.
The QA Manager works closely with internal teams and senior management to deliver projects on time and at the highest possible quality, while assisting with other duties as assigned to support continuous quality improvement and team development.
Responsibilities
- Managerial
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and leadership to the QA team, fostering a collaborative environment.
- Monitor the progress of the QA department, ensuring high-quality output for each sprint and project. Ensure QA staff are prioritizing and tracking defects and issues correctly. Recommend corrective actions when necessary.
- Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., Development, Product Management) to share information on QA issues, processes, and best practices.
- Chair QA scrum meetings, track the progress of QA tasks, and ensure timely completion of testing activities.
- Assign QA tasks to staff based on objective criteria, ensuring balanced workloads and efficient resource utilization.
- Take initiative to research and propose new solutions, process improvements, and testing methodologies. Drive innovation and creative solutions for problems encountered during testing.
- Conduct employee reviews for QA team members in collaboration with the Director of Software Development. Provide constructive feedback and support career development.
- Assist in the hiring and onboarding process for new QA team members, ensuring they are integrated smoothly and equipped with necessary tools and knowledge.
- Participate in production management meetings and communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding project progress and QA concerns.
- Regular QA
- Develop and execute manual and automated test scenarios to verify software functionality and performance.
- Assist with developing QA standards, processes, and metrics to ensure consistency and efficiency in testing efforts.
- Identify and report issues discovered during testing. Collaborate with developers to track defects, suggest solutions, and ensure timely resolution.
- Prioritize and focus testing efforts based on areas of concern, areas requiring modifications, and ongoing development goals.
- Use tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence) to report and track bugs and defects, ensuring all issues are addressed before release.
- Maintain your own testing environment using sample field data to simulate real-world conditions.
- Propose appropriate solutions to problems encountered during testing and implement improvements based on test results.
Education & Experience
- Minimum of a College Diploma or University Degree in Software Testing, Programming, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in a QA specialist role.
- Previous managerial experience is an asset.
