Job Details
Scope and general purpose: Accountable for all laboratory tasks (product testing and equipment calibration), including precision, accuracy, reliability, and repeatability of test results. Manages the ISO 9001 quality management system across the business.
Responsibilities:
- Testing and Analysis:
- Conduct process investigations to find root causes of defects and implement corrective actions.
- Test and verify products against specifications, identify, hold, or reject non-compliant products.
- Handle internal customer complaints from receipt, testing, communication, test report generation and issue.
- Report non-functional equipment and raise job cards.
- Ensure calibration and verification of measuring equipment.
- Administration & Reports:
- Maintain records of all test results.
- Perform process-quality audits at prescribed frequencies.
- File all quality records for easy retrieval.
- Facilitate completion of non-conformances.
- Facilitate corrective action process follow-up.
- Update MDI display boards with non-conforming information.
- Update weekly quality scorecard and report.
- Foster QA committee reviews with DCs to drive improvement.
- Assist with ISO 9001 system maintenance, writing work instructions (SOPs), improving troubleshooting documents, and participating in company system audits.
- Conduct internal audits.
- Train/coach team leaders/operators on SOPs and quality-critical tasks.
- Maintain laboratory housekeeping and assist with 5S program implementation and maintenance.
- Project Activities:
- Participate in departmental and other meetings, providing feedback and updates on production/process issues.
- Stay updated on best practices in technologies affecting quality/production.
- Communicate with the department manager on important issues and project progress.
- Support continuous improvement projects aimed at improving customer complaints and business quality standards.
- Safety:
- Wear safety equipment (safety shoes, safety glasses, earplugs, gloves) on the plant.
- Adhere to all Company safety policies.
Qualifications:
- Grade 12
- Relevant qualification in Chemical Engineering/Analytical Chemistry/Quality/Production
Experience:
- 2-3 years in manufacturing
- Knowledge of Six Sigma and continuous improvement initiatives is an advantage
