The Senior Data Governance Analyst is responsible for supporting the implementation of the Medical-Surgical (MMS) Business' data governance program. This includes partnering with McKesson Technology, our respective legal-compliance organizations and Med-Surgical business area data stewards and analysts, focusing on all aspects of data governance. This role will be responsible for implementing core data governance tooling across the business including data catalog and data quality monitoring and reporting and overall governance monitoring utilizing company policies to drive the quality, security, and compliance of our data. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of data analytics techniques, data architecture, data lifecycle management, continuous improvement processes, as well as experience with healthcare data, HIPAA, HITECH, CCPA, GDPR, and SOX compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain the MMS data catalog including managing data connectors, building domain and community structures, developing workflows, and managing the ingestion of metadata and other asset documentation.
- Lead and facilitate metadata documentation projects with cross functional teams including defining definitions and standards and managing data catalog intake.
- Align with data quality and master data management initiatives to ensure project alignment, documentation, and capture of key metadata and metrics.
- Analyze business data for quality, security and privacy to include structural integrity, data classifications, data privacy tagging, and access rights. When any anomalies are found, drive remediation within the business areas on alignment with best practice continuous improvement processes.
- Program management of data governance operational KPI's with business area teams. Ability to set targets, coach, and mentor teams. Guide investment decisions and advocate with management.
- Engage with business and data stakeholders to identify projects, capture requirements, scope resources, and build prioritization use cases for data governance projects that support business goals and objectives.
- Manage and publish data governance KPIs and reports to data community and appropriate stakeholders.
- Responsible for documenting, monitoring and ensuring the adherence to the data governance policies and processes, working with stakeholders to conduct periodic audits and manage remediation efforts as needed.
- Develop and maintain a data governance playbook of standard processes, tools, and templates to support different types of data governance projects.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business administration (preferably masters), information systems, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- 10+ years of experience in analytics. Understanding analytics and data governance and its interplay with metadata, which can be beneficial for organizations aiming to leverage data for insights.
- Strong technical skills in SQL, Python (preferable) and at least one leading data warehouse or data lakehouse.
- Proficiency with popular data governance tools and platforms (e.g., Alation)
- Understanding of data quality dimensions and their relationship with metadata management.
- Understanding of applicable regulations like HIPAA, HITECH, GDPR, CPRA and CCPA.
- Ability to understand the business context in which data is being used. This includes understanding the organization's goals, objectives, and risks.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills. The ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences is essential. They should be able to explain complex technical and legal concepts in a clear and concise way.
- A collaborator with proven ability to work cross-functionally across many different stakeholders to create and deliver insights. Collaboration first and peer/ team enablement mindset
- Problem-solver with skills to identify and solve problems related to data governance and develop a plan to mitigate the risks of a new data project.
- Ability to work independently, hands on and as part of a team. The candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team. A self-starter with a demonstrated track record of leading projects from idea to execution
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in healthcare.
- Familiarity with database structures, data architectures, and data modeling, which can aid in deeper metadata comprehension and management.
- Ability to conduct training sessions and workshops to elevate organizational understanding of metadata and data governance.
- Excellent project management skills with a track record in metadata, data quality, data privacy and compliance.
