Role DescriptionThe Sr. SQL Data DBA participates in the design, development, implementation, review, and monitoring of all on-premises and cloud database environments. The Sr. SQL Data DBA will work closely with the Software Development, Data Engineering, and QA teams to ensure each team has the resources needed to run efficiently and effectively and to provide guidelines and recommendations on best practices.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, maintain, and monitor database servers across environments (Production, QA, Development).
- Ensure High Availability and meet SLAs for systems across environments.
- Design and implement monitoring solutions for HA and SLA goals.
- Review and audit all environments for security best practices.
- Assist in T-SQL development (check-in, review, build, testing, and deployment) and support of SQL CI/CD lifecycle.
- Assist developers in best practices for writing queries/procedures.
- Assist in system capacity planning.
- Create and implement new environments based on business needs.
- Assist in project, capacity, and infrastructure planning.
- Mentor and lead team members in best practices for administration and development.
Requirements
- 10+ years of hands-on SQL Server transactional experience.
- Strong knowledge of MS SQL Server, T-SQL, PowerShell, and coding best practices.
- Strong knowledge of MySQL & Postgres (preferred).
- Strong knowledge of AWS Cloud services (RDS, Redshift).
- Experience using Source Control (GitHub) for scripts and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions).
- Strong understanding of SQL Server HA and DR technologies (availability groups, backups, restores, FCI, log shipping, mirroring, replication).
- Strong SQL Server administration skills (backups, restores, snapshots, user/role security, permissions).
- Strong understanding of SQL Server concurrency, transactions, and locking.
- Expert experience in SQL performance analysis and optimization (tuning).
- Experience with SQL Server debugging and tracing.
- Experience with Atlassian Jira & Confluence.
- Familiarity with BI technologies (ETL, data warehousing, SSAS/OLAP, data mining, big data).
- Associate degree (Computer Science preferred), or equivalent experience.
