As part of the global Operations & Technology organization, the Data & Analytics team focuses on data and analytics strategies for the future, supporting NBCU's vast portfolio. They pride themselves on providing data to advise and shape strategic business decisions. The team seeks a passionate Sr. Staff Data Engineer to build the next generation of data solutions, working with internal stakeholders, other data engineers, data scientists, and technologists.
The ideal candidate is a subject matter expert in designing and developing data models, balancing business acumen and deep technical knowledge. The role offers the opportunity to create extraordinary solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the process of building and designing data models from multiple sources (manipulating data, flat files, raw info) for stakeholders to easily use and incorporating insights into actionable strategies.
- Implement design patterns to optimize performance, cost, security, and scale, along with the user experience.
- Collaborate with business leaders, engineers, and product managers to understand data needs.
- Interface with technology teams to extract, load, and transform data from diverse sources using cloud-native principles.
- Become a subject matter expert for data engineering technologies and designs.
- Coach and guide others in building scalable pipelines and semantic data models.
- Participate in development sprints, demos, retrospectives, releases, and deployments.
- Build and manage relationships with supporting IT teams.
- Transform complex data into digestible insights for technical and non-technical users, optimizing UX and adhering to branding.
- Act as a subject matter expert in data modeling methodologies.
- Stay updated on data standards, systems, and future tools/languages.
Requirements:
- 12+ years of progressive experience in data engineering, warehousing, data modeling.
- 10+ years of experience with SQL, data modeling, ETL/ELT, cloud development, and data warehousing.
- 8+ years in a business-facing analytical role.
- 8+ years of experience with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.).
- 8+ years working with data modeling and semantic/virtualization tools (DBT, AtScale, etc).
- Knowledge of cloud technologies (AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Experience building data pipelines using Python/SQL.
- Demonstrated experience with orchestration engines (Airflow, Luigi).
Desired Characteristics:
- Strong storytelling skills with complex datasets.
- Strong SQL, database, and ELT tool skills (Snowflake, Redshift).
- Experience with federated query engines (Trino/Starburst).
- Familiarity with cloud solutions and cloud storage (AWS S3, GCS, Azure).
- Media-focused knowledge (broadcast TV, digital, mobile).
- Excellent communication (verbal and written).
- Action-oriented, results-driven, ethical, and builds trust.
- Strong understanding of Agile principles.
