Full-Time Staff GIS Specialist

Gather data from various sources (maps, satellite images) for specific regions. Investigate data sources (free and paid) to ensure coverage, up-to-date information, and quality.

Use tools like GDAL and custom software to clean, resize, and align data.

Work closely with different teams:

• AI/ML teams: Provide diverse data for machine learning models.
• Pipeline and Product teams: Ensure necessary data for new regions.

Responsibilities:

1. Aggregate data for target regions and ensure comprehensive data collection.
2. Research open, public domain, and commercial sensor data sources, evaluating coverage, quality, and timeliness.
3. Utilize open-source (e.g., GDAL) and internal tools for data preprocessing (align, crop, resample).
4. Contribute to internal tools for processing and sourcing geospatial datasets.
5. Partner with teams to understand GIS data needs for AI/ML research.
6. Coordinate with AI/ML and Pipeline/Product teams for data provision.
7. Partner with leadership to understand product vision.

Qualifications:

• Master's degree in relevant field (Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics).
• 3+ years industry experience (fast-paced, high-growth tech).
• Experience with GIS data formats (orthoimagery, LiDAR, vector data, elevation, landcover).
• Basic scripting abilities (e.g., Python) for automation.

Desired Skills:

• Team-oriented and collaborative.
• Experience with open-source GIS libraries (PROJ, GDAL).
• Experience with Linux and Unix shell environments (e.g., bash).
• Enthusiasm for automated development.

Benefits:

Salary: $125,000 - $155,000 (bonus eligibility)
